THE HEROINEZ JOURNEY

Discussing, creating, and exploring the relationship between classical ballet and gender.

The Hero's Journey is a quest for an external objective, about obligation, to correct a wrong, bring balance to the world, and, in doing so, be transformed.

Ballet Neo's program, The Heroinez Journey, investigates the classical ballet lexicon in a nonbinary or gender-inclusive exploration of Joseph Campbell's Hero's Journey that involves reinterpreting and expanding upon Campbell's framework to accommodate a broader spectrum of gender identities and experiences. The goal is to recognize that heroism, personal growth, and transformation are not exclusive to traditional binary gender roles. The Heroinez Journey explores alternate perspectives of the human experience.
